Oh yes, the album is coming. First time meshing photography with drawing. This was a quick project done on borrowed equipment. The fully realized concept would be a 360 panoramic photograph with the drawings weaving throughout. The insert would fold out to reveal more of the image along with the lyrics on the back.

Used an old drawing for a new Threadless entry. Because it would be screenprinted I used flat colors by making shapes in illustrator. It was my first time trying that out. I went an assbackwards way of doing it, but it ended up working out.

Flyer I put together for the Blacklisted record release show in Philly. The idea stems from the record title. I wanted to incorporate a richer textural quality when I color my drawings so I scanned in ink washes and brush marks to work with. Below is a detail where you can really examine how I used them for the hair and water marks. Right under it is the original drawing.

Below is my process in reverse order. The first sketch was about 10" long and the final drawing spanned over two pieces of 14" x 17" Bristol.

This is my entry for Threadless. If you like it you should go vote for it when its up.

The bottom three images show my sketch development in reverse chronological order. It started with a sketch for a pen pal, which is a very good motivator for cranking out original ideas every week. The larger sketch was 14" x 17", but I thought I lost the expression of the face I originally envisioned. The final sketch still didn't have the right border, which was drawn separately and arranged in Photoshop. The final painting is the second I have ever done on a computer.

This was my first time ever painting a drawing in photoshop. The Wacom I had to borrow didn't give me pressure sensitivity either so this took a while. Below is my process.

At this point I came to a crossroad about how to color the big guy. I imagined him the hue of a blood blister with pus yellow lips, which I thought jived with the palette. I was aiming for a colorway that would make you rush to the hospital if spotted on your body. Seeing him white surrounded by all that mess really pressed me to go about making him an albino. The covers for the Saw movies and the monsters from The Descent absolutely nail the striking creepiness of pure white smeared in dirt. Maybe I will do a variant if it goes to print. I'll post the completed poster later.

The above images were for a five pack of gum I made to experiment with printed images as they exist in three dimensions. The context of each mouth has multiple connotations that bounce off one another. The cliff notes version is that they deal with emotion, indulgence, pleasure, and pain. The intention was to instigate an interest in what flavor or effects the gum would have depending on which set of lips was printed on it.

I took a couple punches in the mouth to get the busted lip. The gum stick mock-ups were printed photos mounted on chipboard.
